Semi-Auto Pistol I - Classroom
Description
This course is designed to provide 8 hours of instruction to new and experienced shooters an introduction to the basics of semi-auto pistol safety and function, as well as the opportunity to strengthen foundational knowledge and skills. Course curriculum will include safety, terminology, function, manipulation and cleaning.
The lessons will be comprised of presentations, discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on practical exercises. We aim to provide interesting and engaging material so students walk away with more than just a blur of PowerPoint presentations at the end of the day. We will cover firearms safety on the range and also at home, as well as other topics on responsible firearms handling.
Students are not required to provide a firearm for this course. We provide Glock 17P pistols for hands-on instruction so students can hold, feel, and function a real firearm. The 17P model is designed to have all the same parts and function as a Glock 17 with some minor changes to render it unable to fire a bullet.
Students will learn the basics of stance, grip, presentation, sight alignment and sight picture. Basic instruction on the function of the firearm will include topics such as properly loading magazines, performing reloads, rendering a firearm safe, and disassembly and reassembly.
This course is designed to be a low stress event to develop a level of comfort and competence with firearms handling that encourages students to appreciate and seek future training, whether for sport, career, or protection purposes. Students who have not yet purchased a firearm may also receive assistance in deciding what firearm or accessories may be best for their needs.
This course is designed as a prerequisite to the Semi-Auto Pistol I – Range course. Courses are usually scheduled in pairs but students are welcome to attend any Semi-Auto Pistol I – Range within 12 months of completion of the classroom course.
