Recovery and Handling of Human Remains

Synopsis

This course is designed to familiarize law enforcement officers with the Missouri statutory provisions related to the discovery of unmarked human burials, the right of sepulcher, and the disposal of “paupers’” bodies.  In addition, the class reviews the origin and purpose of the Native America Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.  The class also discusses the purpose and benefit of maintaining proper chain of custody documentation while providing examples from cases where errors resulted in lost evidence.
